And a proportion in three terms is the smallest (possible).
Modern Formulation
We say, the positive real numbers \(\alpha,\beta,\gamma\) are in a proportion in three terms, if they fulfil the proportion.
\[\frac\alpha\beta=\frac\beta\gamma.\]
