Franc Močnik was a Slovenian mathematician, pedagogue and writer of mathematical textbooks.
Mathematical Profile (Excerpt):
 Franc was the second of his parents' three sons.
 In 1821, at the age of six, Franc began his schooling in the elementary school at Idrija, a town 14 km south of Cerkno.
 At the Lyceum Močnik had good teachers; there was the linguist and literary historian Matija Cop (17971835) (he drowned while swimming in Sava river) and Franc Serafin Metelko (17891860), the physicist Janez Krstnik Kersnik (17831850), the botanist Franc Hladnik (17731844), and the excellent mathematics professor Leopold Karol Schulz von Strassnitzki (18031852) from Kraków.
Born 1 October 1814, Cerkno, Austrian Empire (now Slovenia). Died 30 November 1892, Graz, AustriaHungary (now Austria).
