Topic: about 4000 BC: Clay Accounting Tokens
In the Middle East, clay tokens were used to represent the number of trade goods. E.g. if a salesman was sent to sale 3 cows and 2 sheep, the purchaser receiving the goods also received a vessel sealed by the owner with 3 clay tokens representing cows and 2 clay tokens representing sheep.
